Start-ups, scale-ups and industry have the chance to explore cutting edge collaborative opportunities through a new Open Innovation Challenge in Queensland.

Applications are now open for the challenge which is coordinated by the Agtech and Logistics Hub in partnership with Innovation Architects.

The focus will be on the digitisation and automation of the agricultural supply chain to drive efficiencies and sustainability.

Agtech and Logistics Hub Manager Owen Williams is encouraging innovators, investors, and industry to get involved in the exciting program.

“This challenge has been designed with industry in mind and we’re focused on working to solve the problems currently in the market.”

“We’re also armed with the knowledge of what industry needs so by bringing together a group of entrepreneurial companies and research organisations will allow us to unlock new and exciting solutions,” said Mr Williams.

Throughout the challenge there will be a focus on cyber security, automation, traceability, connectivity, digital auditing, ESG plus more. 

Entrepreneur-In-Residence at the Agtech and Logistics Hub, Al Fullerton said the program is all about harnessing the power of collaborative innovation.

“There is a need for whole-of-system thinking and business models that can deliver tangible value and benefits to all stakeholders.”

“The consumer is often the missing link but has the potential to drive significant value.”

“Each value chain player can contribute to building consumer trust and enhancing Australia’s brand and reputation, increase exports and access specialty markets,” said Mr Fullerton.

To coincide with the launch of the first Open Innovation Challenge, Innovation Architects also detailed a new Acceleration Program.

Managing Partner Mark Gustowski said it’s a three-month mentor driven and part-time program, designed to make 12 months of progress in 12 weeks.

“The Accelerator Program is for commercial Agtech companies, including university spinouts, who are seeking support in achieving their short to medium term goals.”

“There’s a strong relevance to Queensland’s agricultural and logistics sector so I’d encourage anyone interested to get in touch,” said Mr Gustowski.
